This concise 4-day tour is perfect for travelers eager to dive deep into the rich history of Sri Lanka. Explore ancient capitals, monumental ruins, sacred temples, and fascinating Buddhist heritage sites. From the sacred city of Anuradhapura to the royal splendor of Polonnaruwa and the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, this tour is an immersive experience in Sri Lanka’s cultural and historical highlights, with stays at carefully selected hotels for comfort and relaxation.
Activities & Experiences:
Day 1: Arrival – Colombo Airport – Anuradhapura
Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, your tour representative will welcome you and transfer you to Anuradhapura. After settling into your hotel, rest and prepare for a late afternoon city tour. Anuradhapura, one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, boasts incredible archaeological wonders—such as the Ruwanweliseya Temple, Abhayagiriya Temple, and Jetawanaramaya Dagobas. Explore these ancient Buddhist sites and royal palaces that reveal the island’s spiritual and royal past. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Anuradhapura – Polonnaruwa – Sigiriya
After breakfast, continue your historical exploration of Anuradhapura, visiting landmarks like the Kuttam Pokuna (twin ponds) and the serene Samadhi Buddha statue. Then, we head to Polonnaruwa, the medieval capital of Sri Lanka, where you’ll explore the impressive ruins of the Polonnaruwa Royal Palace. Discover the grandiose architecture and remarkable sculptures that provide insights into Sri Lanka’s royal life in the 12th century. At the end of the day, we journey to Sigiriya for an overnight stay, ready to rest before the next adventure.
Day 3: Sigiriya – Dambulla – Matale – Kandy
Today, we start with a visit to Sigiriya, home to the majestic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Climb to the summit to witness breathtaking panoramic views and marvel at the well-preserved frescoes. We then move on to Dambulla, where we will explore the Dambulla Cave Temple, famous for its ancient Buddha statues and cave murals. Next, we’ll visit Matale, where a tour of a spice garden introduces you to Sri Lanka’s spice culture. Conclude the day in Kandy, Sri Lanka’s cultural capital, home to the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic. Enjoy a relaxing evening surrounded by natural beauty.
Day 4: Kandy – Pinnawala – Colombo – Airport
On your final day, take a scenic drive around Kandy’s Upper Lake Drive, offering beautiful views of the surrounding hills. Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, known for its wide variety of plant species and stunning landscapes. Afterward, we proceed to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, where you can interact with rescued elephants and learn about their conservation. Depending on your flight schedule, you can choose to explore Colombo for some last-minute shopping and sightseeing or head directly to Bandaranaike International Airport for your departure.
